About the Workshop
This interactive presentation will begin with a framing of a major public health problem, namely suicidal behavior, with an emphasis on key risk and protective factors. Attendees will be given strategies for conducting a suicide risk assessment and formulating risk. This will be followed by an overview of evidence-based psychosocial screening, prevention, and intervention strategies with suicidal individuals. There will be a dynamic discussion of therapeutic interventions for families with a suicidal loved one, as well as postvention strategies for use with families following a family member’s death by suicide. Therapists' reactions to working with suicidal individuals and their families will be explored. Vignettes and clinical experiences from the participants will also be addressed.
